了解half与the连用时of可以省略，譬如：half the students, 那样，half与a ,an连用时有没of的？half of a watermelon对吗？谢谢！
half of a watermelon的表达是正确的。《葛传槼英语惯使用方法词典》冠词a/an的第33条有如下说明：
half a mile; half a month; half an inch; half an hour; half a bottle half a cup; half a dozen; half a million
在这种使用方法里，把“half”看作adjective或看作noun后面省去“of”都可以，但不论“half”是adjective还是noun，“a”一直article; ......
既然可以把half看作名词后面省去of（当然这个of也可不省），那样half a watermelon的表达一定是对的。

短语a half，half of 和 half a 或者 half an 都是正确的， 尽管它们可能在乎义上稍有不同。比如当day当工作日来讲时， a half day 这个短语的意思是“四个小时”。 half of a day 和 half a day 的意思不限于此， 它们可以表示四小时或者十二时辰。
